Sandiacre increase their lead as Swarkestone held at Matlock

Sandiacre Town increased their lead at the top of the Beechwood MG Derbyshire Premier League despite being held to a draw by Chesterfield. Sandiacre were in the ascendency at Longmoor Lane but not so Swarkestone at Matlock. Matlock’s 225 for 6 was enough to secure a winning-draw and Swarkestone were limited to just nine points. Ockbrook & Borrowash consolidated third spot with 17pts from a draw at Denby and Lullington Park put last weekend’s dismal showing behind them to thrash Eckington who drop to bottom place as a consequence. Ticknall came off second-best in a drawn game against Dunstall in spite of Zain Abbas’s fine unbeaten century and A & B got off the mark in 2013 with a win over Spondon.

Marehay have a 13pt advantage at the top of Play Straight Cricket Division One thanks to victory over Elvaston and Alfreton move back up to second place courtesy of a six-wicket win over Sawley & Long Eaton Park. Biggest movers on the day were Duffield who thrashed Rolls Royce Leisure to move up three places to third. Clifton and Ilkeston Rutland got the better of draws against Quarndon and Ambergate respectively and Rolleston picked up their first win of the season at the expense of Stainsby Hall.

In ‘the follow on’ Division Two Staveley Welfare climbed back into top spot following an easy win over former-leaders Cutthorpe and Langley Mill Utd slip to third following defeat at home to South Wingfield. In Technical Turf Division Three West Hallam WR still lead the way after claiming the major spoils from a draw with Walton, a result that allowed Alrewas, who drew against Heanor Town, to nudge up in to second place.
