Week 14...washout but not quite!
Derbyshire Premier & County Cricket Leagues
Weather

There was severe disruption to the Week 14 programme with most matches either cancelled or abandoned. Five matches finally got under way in the Beechwood Mazda Premier League but none went beyond 30 overs. Lullington Park managed to pick up a few more points than most by reducing leaders Ockbrook to 107 for 8. In Play Straight Cricket Division One only Staveley Welfare and Duffield managed to start and the latter had reached 169 for 7 after 32 overs when the action was halted. In Flint Bishop Division Two, however, Alrewas stole a march on their rivals with victory at Trentside. The match was reduced to 37 overs a side but Alrewas beat the rain by overhauling Trentside's 80 for 9 in just 13.3 overs. In Technical Turf Division Three two matches got started but both suffered eventual abandonment.

In 4S Etwall moved up one place to fifth following a winning-draw against promotion-chasing Abbots Bromley and in 6N Staveley Welfare 2nds leapt up two places to sixth after beating bottom of the table Matlock 2nds. Brailsford 2nds (7S) and Ticknall 4ths (10S) were the other winners on what was a pretty dismal afternoon.

The funeral service for Charlie Veale will be held on Tuesday next, 22nd July, at St Andrew's Church, Clifton Campville, and afterwards you are invited to a "Cricket Tea for Charlie" at Lullington Park Cricket Club. The family request smart dress, but NO black. It will be family flowers only but donations in lieu of flowers may be made to a charity of the family's choice, details of which will be available shortly. The family are most appreciative of the kind messages and gestures from their friends in the cricketing family.

Please see 'News' for a message of thanks from Ian Wakefield (Rolleston CC) who collapsed at a recent match at Sawley & Long Eaton Park CC
